The Official Journal of the Government of Catalonia (DOGC) published an announcement today to begin the public information process for the Tarragona Transit Development Plan, which includes the six counties of the region of Camp. The process allows town and city councils, organisations and individuals to consult the plan so that maximum consensus can be achieved.
- It includes 44 measures within seven areas of action to plan matters related to mobility and transit until 2015.
- Its scope extends to an area made up of six counties: Alt Camp, Baix Camp, Baix Penedès, Conca de Barberà, Priorat and Tarragonès, which comprise 131 municipalities and over 600,000 inhabitants.
- It is expected to increase the use of public transport by 7% and promote walking and cycling as means of transport.
- It creates 2,500 new parking spaces for vehicles and 600 for bicycles near the train stations to facilitate changes in modes of transport.
- It will strive to put 25 new kilometres of bus lanes into action in order to ensure the schedule speed of mass transit services.
- It earmarks a global budget of over 394 M euros for the development of transit improvement projects in Camp de Tarragona, without including investment in infrastructure.
