The DPTOP increases bus service between Tarragona and Torredembarra (07/06/2010)

Today, 7th June, the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Public Works (DPTOP) has added five new bus journeys to service from Tarragona to Torredembarra by way of Altafulla every working day from Monday through Friday. This action will provide more frequent service at rush hours in keeping with the demand detected on this line and in response to the mobility needs of the area. The new journeys involve an annual investment of 25,600 euros, and will be completely paid for by the DPTOP.

The DPTOP has improved the bus service that currently connects Tarragona and Torredembarra via Altafulla so that, as of today, 7th June, 48 journeys will be offered on working days from Monday to Friday. Twenty-four outgoing and 24 return journeys will now connect these areas with the capital of the region.

The implementation of this new service increases the frequency of runs during rush hours, with five new journeys on working days from Monday to Friday – three outgoing and two return trips – which will contribute to promoting mobility via public transport in this corridor. The new outgoing journeys will leave from Torredembarra at 7.31, 7.56 and 8.36 a.m. The return journeys will depart from the Tarragona bus station at 2.05 and 3.05 p.m. The one-way journey takes about a half an hour.

The goal of this improvement is to better attend to the demand detected between these two cities, which serve as hubs for numerous regular journeys, offering a broader range of timetables, especially at rush hours.

This new service is part of the 2008-2012 Passenger Transport Plan of Catalonia, approved by the Government of Catalonia, which includes the strengthening of public transport connections between different municipalities and the capital of the region.

The management of this line will be the responsibility of the company Autocars del Penedés, S.A. The new journeys involve an annual investment of 25,600 euros, fully paid for by the DPTOP.
